While dog walkers have been able to stroll through parks mostly undisturbed all winter, now we must go back to sharing the space with everyone else – and this may mean greater use of Toronto’s off leash areas. In being mindful of everyone who uses our city’s public parks, we have a respectable list of designated spots where our pooches can mingle and frolic safely.

Here is a long list of designated park areas in the GTA. Some of these are fenced, and some are not, so make note of that before you head out!

If you’ve been watching the news lately, you may have seen the tidbit about pills being found at the off-leash park at Allan Gardens. The Toronto Humane Society has posted the Toronto Sun Article about it as well.

It doesn’t seem like it’s clear whether or not the pills were left with the intention to harm dogs, but it’s worth taking note of.

If you’re playing with your pooch in an off leash area, keep an eye on him anyway. Don’t just assume the dogs are fine as long as there is fencing, because parks are public places and all sorts of things can be found that may be dangerous to our pets.

The first time we saw it, Chloe acted like she’d spotted another dog. I had to look twice myself to realize it was a statue of a cow, but Chloe was not convinced. She slooowwwly circled it, sniffed its bum a few times, and then playfully barked at the cow, probably inviting it to play. The cow was not impressed.

Ever since then, the same scenario repeats every time we walk by the cow!

At this rate, he should be ready for group walks by March!
